Leap to Know respects your privacy and commits to protecting your personal information. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights, in line with South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
Information we collect via our website
When you contact us through our contact form, we collect the name, email address and any information you choose to include in your message. We use this only to respond to you.
The contact form
If you sign up as a tester, we collect your name and Google account email so that we can add you to the tester list for our app on Google Play. We use this only for that purpose, and remove your details when testing ends or if you ask us to.
Leap to Know takes reasonable measures to keep your information secure, and we keep it only for as long as necessary to respond to your enquiry.
Cookies
Our website uses a small number of cookies to help it work properly — for example, to remember your language preference and to help protect our contact form from spam. These cookies do not identify you personally. You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings at any time.
No sensitive information
We are mindful that our audience includes children and do not knowingly collect personal information from children through this website. We expect any information submitted through our contact form to come from a parent, teacher or other adult. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will remove it.
Protection against spam
Our website uses Cloudflare Turnstile to protect our contact form from spam and abuse. This service may process limited technical information about your visit in order to confirm that you are a genuine visitor. We do not sell, rent or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
Your rights
Under POPIA, you have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to request that we correct it, and to ask us to delete it. To make any such request, please reach us through the details on our Contact page.
Links to other websites
Our website and apps may link to other sites, such as the Google Play Store or external resources. Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites, and we encourage you to read their privacy policies.
Our apps
Our educational apps are downloaded through the Google Play Store. Once downloaded, they work entirely offline.
Technical information from Google Play
When you download Leap to Know from Google Play, Google may collect technical information about how the app runs, such as crash reports, performance data, device model and Android version. This happens under Google’s Privacy Policy. Google shares this information with us only in summary form or as anonymous crash reports. It does not include your child’s name, progress, drawings or any other content created in the app. We use it only to find and fix problems.
Testers
If you join one of our testing programmes, we receive the email address you used to sign up so that we can give you access. We use it only to manage the testing programme and to contact you about it. We remove it when you leave the programme or when testing ends.
What a Leap to Know app stores
As a child works, the app saves images of individual work, such as writing and drawing, so that the child, parent or teacher can look back at what they have done. The app also keeps a record of the child’s progress: which activities they completed, their answers and the time spent on the app, with dates and times. No information about a child’s learning progress is ever sent to us. We do not collect, receive or have access to this data.
Our apps use the device’s camera as a live mirror, so children can watch themselves while practising sounds, words and sentences. This image is shown on screen in real time only — no photographs or video recordings are ever made, stored or transmitted.
The app does not ask for or store the child’s name, age or school. Each child is represented by one of the built-in avatars on the app.
The admin area
Parents and teachers can open an admin area in the app. It is protected by a maths question that uses both numbers and words, which helps keep young children out. Here, adults can see how a child is progressing. They can also export the child’s data to keep a copy of their progress or to move progress to another device. The export file contains the app version and device model, so that progress can be imported correctly on another device.
Exported data
Exporting only happens when a parent or teacher chooses to do so. The data they export, for instance by email, it is handled by the apps and services they choose, and Leap to Know does not receive a copy. The export file is not password-protected, so please keep it as you would any other personal file.
