Leap to Know has recently contributed to a Room to Read initiative by sponsoring the translation of 20 indigenous-language storybooks in Afrikaans. Each storybook originated in Sepedi, siSwati, Xitsonga, Tshivenda or isiZulu. Translations in all these languages followed, and soon also translations in English, IsiXhosa, IsiNdebele, Sesotho and Setswana. Prior to Leap to Know’s intervention, these beautifully illustrated indigenous storybooks were available in 8 South African languages – but not yet in Afrikaans!
